Darwin's Nightmare

Darwin's Nightmare is a newly released, Academy Award nominated film that tells the amazing, tragic, and at times twisted story of Africa’s Lake Victoria. The Nile Perch, a voracious predator, was introduced in the 1960s and has since consumed nearly the entire stock of native fish, decimating local fishing economies and culture, while providing a monoculture of perch for export to European markets. Ex-Soviet cargo planes arrive daily to carry away millions of pounds of fish and the wealth and nourishment they offer, while delivering their clandestine southbound cargo of guns and ammunition. Characters shaped by forces larger than life abound in this true story of human spirit and the will to survive.
