Our
landscaping program promotes landscaping practices that
are less polluting, use less energy, generate less maintenance
noise and, where appropriate, incorporate native plants,
edible plants or lawn alternatives.
We invite people to think about why they have so much
lawn and if they really want and use it all. We encourage
folks who like lawns to have a "turf area"
but not use lawn as a default, instead using native
plantings or other lower maintenance plantings for the
remainder. Lawns require frequent maintenance (energy
use and noise), are often maintained with pesticides,
irrigation and over fertilizing, and decrease biodiverity.
Taking out even a small amount of one's lawn has a significant
collective impact.
We also invite people to consider why we maintain commercial
planting areas ("beds") as we do - with a
high reliance on chemical pesticides and loud, polluting
maintenance machinery.
Please note that this site currently has a large focus
on landscaping with native plants. We are developing
the edible, lawn alternative and organic lawn care aspects
and will present them soon. Thanks for reading and enjoy!
As always your questions and feedback are welcome.
