The PINE Film Festival

The PINE Film Festival, where PINE stands for Portland International Nature and Environmental, is a celebration of:

    film and the independent filmmaker - a unique, provocative medium and the creative genius that brings it to life;

    storytelling - the ancient art that engages us, entertains us, and perhaps most important of all, provides understanding where none may have existed before; and

    interconnection - our relationship to each other, to the other organisms with whom we share this planet and among those organisms.

What is an "environmental" film? We interpret the term "environmental" broadly. likening it to interconnectedness. Thus, to us, an environmental film is one that reminds us of or explores our relationship to each another and the world around us.

The PINE Film Festival is a project of the nonprofit organization Livable Place.

Livable Place

Livable Place is a Portland, Oregon, based nonprofit organization. Its mission is to empower people to create healthy, vibrant and well-rested communities that reflect a sense of place by reducing harmful pollution, minimizing intrusive light and noise, and enhancing endemic biodiversity. Livable Place excels at creative, collaborative outreach, the PINE Film Festival being one such example. Our program areas include: Light Pollution Reduction, Low Pollution and Native Plant Landscaping, Noise Pollution Reduction and Prevention of Pollution Caused Disease (primarily cancer). Our creative, collaborative outreach also includes our St. Patty's Day BOG (Bring Out the Green) and Cancer Out, our mid-summer cancer prevention awareness event.
